The first Saturday in June is always a big day in Tavistock. It’s World Crokinole Championship Day! Put a circle on your calendar around June 3, 2017 and make plans to come and play. Bring a friend. Bring your family. There’s a category in our tournament for all ages. We are always happy to see returning players and to welcome new ones.
Every year brings a few changes. Quite often the changes result from excellent suggestions made by the players. Sometimes changes originate with the WCC Committee. For the 2017 tournament, it’s a bit of both.
Here are the big new items in 2017: (a) In response to requests from players, we are introducing a new category. It’s called Youth Doubles and is open to players age 6 - 14. The Youth Doubles will play in the morning along with all other doubles categories. We will always encourage children to play doubles with dad or mom or a grandparent or a favourite adult on the main playing area in the arena. However, if two young people want to team up and play against other young players, they now can do so in the Curling Hall (connected to the arena). (b) In 2017 we are introducing a modest increase to registration fees in all categories.
We have kept our fees constant for many years but can no longer continue to do so. This is a fact of life in most things these days and we trust our players will understand. It’s still a great day for a reasonable cost.
As always, we encourage you to register early. We have, in the past, had to turn people away and we don’t want you to be disappointed. Registrations and payments received before April 30 are eligible to win one of two official spring jackets embroidered with the WCC emblem. Registrations received after May 15 are subject to a late fee. We are, once again, repeating our special promotion for crokinole clubs ... one free entry for a singles category to be used by a player who has not already been to the world championship tournament.

As always, we look forward to seeing you and your friends and family on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the World Crokinole Championship Tournament held at the Tavistock & District Recreation Centre at 1 Adam Street in Tavistock. GPS co-ordinates 43.3189 N, 80.8350 W
